Visit to Ngutana - Lui

Dear Mum and Dad,

On the 31st of July, all of the year 3s went on an excursion to Ngutana Lui in Inala (100 Lilac Street Inala-Brisbane, QLD). Ngutana-Lui is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture centre.

First, we went on the bus and off we went. When we finally got to Ngutana-Lui we got off the bus. Then we went into Ngutana-Lui and sat down on the stairs. Then we had morning tea.

After we had morning tea, we went with Marlon for song and dance. Before we did the dance we got our faces painted with ochre. When everyboday was painted, we started the dance. We danced by shaking, walking like an Emu and flying like a Bower bird. Then he told us a story about a boy called Dudidri.

After that Marlon took us to Robert. Robert showed us weapons such as boomerangs and spears. He also showed us Didgeridoo and did some cool sound with it. Like a Kangaroo bouncing, a Dingo howling and someone talking on a telephone. Then we had lunch.

When we finished (having) lunch, we went with Wally. He showed us weapons that men used for hunting and killing. He told us about the weaving that Torres Strait Islander women did.

After Wally, we went with Lisa. She told us (about) the plants that heled the Aboriginal people to make and carry things. She told us where they had their babies. Then we went on a bush walk. On the bush walk, we saw Native Bees. The bees didn't sting. Next we saw Meat Ants. Meat ants eat left over meat from bones and if you had a tummy ache you would crush the ants and gulp it down. The next thing we saw was Lomandra (kind of grass leaves). If you chew the white bit, it will act like a tooth brush, and you can use the green bit like dental floss. When you tie the green will be a paint brush. Then we saw the Soaptree. The soap-tree sucks some oxigen in the water so the Aboriginal people can catch fish. After that we saw we saw the Paperbark tree. It selt really nice. When we finished the bush walk, then we went on the bus.

I had a fund day at the centre and I like the bush walk the best.

My favourite animal

My favourite animal is a polar bear.

They eat fish and have two ears.

They also have big sharp claws.

Polar bears are white like the snow.

They live in the North pole.

The Fairies

Introduction: This story was written after few months we arrived in Brisbane. Nadya still had not known many friends yet, she just knew Sheila as her new friend from school in Iron Side. At the same time she stil missed her old friends, Lia is one of her best friends in Montreal. Thus, everyday she played mostly with her sister Jasmin. This situation has inspired her to write the following story. Have a nice reading...

There was 4 Fairies,
the 1st was called Jasmin
the 2nd was called Sheila
the 3rd one was called Nadya, and
the last was called Lia.

The 3rd fairy is the preeties fairy in fairy land.
She has curly hair and 3 puppy and
she have [has] that [a] box
There [is] something inside the box
There was a bear inside.
A box has music, there [its key is] in the back.
You can turn around the music
There was a drawer under the box

The 2nd fairy was the 3rd fairy friend
The 1st fairy was the 3rd fairy sister
The last fairy was her friend too
They live together in fairy land.
